By Finoways Research Team · Published 19 Oct 2026, 07:30 UAE · EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/INR

Forex markets show mixed conditions on 19 October. EUR/USD remains below its 20-day and 50-day averages, while GBP/USD is above its 20-day average but below its 50-day average. USD/JPY is holding slightly above both averages, and USD/INR remains below its key averages despite a one-day rebound. The main scheduled risks are UK earnings data and several low-impact US housing and employment releases.

What to watch today

  • EUR/USD: 1.1191 support, 1.1253 resistance and the 18:00 UAE US housing release.
  • GBP/USD: 1.3340 and 1.3389 resistance ahead of Tuesday's 10:00 UAE earnings data.
  • USD/JPY: 157.83 support and 158.31 resistance within the 156.40-159.00 range.
  • USD/INR: 94.69 pivot support and 95.21 resistance while price remains below its moving averages.
  • US releases: ADP at 16:15 UAE, housing data at 16:30 UAE and Pending Home Sales at 18:00 UAE on Tuesday.

Technical analysis

EUR/USD

Bearish1.1230

EUR/USD remains below its 1.1284 20-day average and 1.1470 50-day average, with the 20-day range extending from 1.1114 to 1.1481.

Resistance1.1253 | 1.1292

EUR/USD closed at 1.1230, close to the 1.1231 pivot and below both the 1.1284 20-day average and the 1.1470 50-day average. The pair has gained 0.22% over five days but remains down 2.18% over 20 days, keeping the broader technical bias pressured.

Momentum is weak but not deeply oversold. The 14-day RSI, a measure of recent momentum, is 35.5, while the 14-day ATR, a measure of typical daily movement, is 0.0076. Holding above the 1.1191 pivot support could keep the recent rebound structure intact; a break below it would bring 1.1169 and the 1.1114 20-day low into focus.

On the upside, 1.1253 is the first pivot resistance, followed by 1.1292. A sustained move above 1.1292 would place price closer to the 20-day average, but the pair would still need to reclaim 1.1470 to materially improve the longer-term structure.

Bullish scenarioIf EUR/USD holds above 1.1191 and clears 1.1253, attention could turn to 1.1292 and the 1.1284 20-day average.
Bearish scenarioIf EUR/USD falls below 1.1191, weakness could expose 1.1169 and then the 1.1114 20-day low.

GBP/USD

Neutral1.3327

GBP/USD trades above its 1.3253 20-day average and 1.3284 20-day exponential average but remains below its 1.3420 50-day average and 1.3389 20-day high.

Resistance1.3340 | 1.3389

GBP/USD closed at 1.3327, above the 1.3304 pivot and the 1.3253 20-day average. It has risen 0.65% over five days, although the 20-day change remains slightly negative at -0.46%. The pair is still below the 1.3420 50-day average, so the short-term recovery has not yet changed the wider range structure.

The 14-day RSI is 52.3, indicating balanced momentum rather than an extreme condition. ATR is 0.0078, suggesting that daily swings can remain relatively wide. The first downside reference is 1.3237, followed by 1.3202, while 1.3340 is the nearest pivot resistance.

A move through 1.3340 would put the 1.3389 20-day high in view. A clear recovery beyond that level could improve the short-term tone, but the 1.3420 50-day average remains an important broader trend reference.

Bullish scenarioIf GBP/USD holds above 1.3304 and clears 1.3340, the pair could retest 1.3389 while traders assess the 1.3420 50-day average.
Bearish scenarioIf GBP/USD slips below 1.3237, the next downside reference would be 1.3202, with momentum weakening below the 1.3253 20-day average.

USD/JPY

Bullish158.07

USD/JPY is marginally above its 157.95 20-day average, 157.83 20-day exponential average and 157.71 50-day average, while remaining within its 156.40-159.00 20-day range.

USD/JPY closed at 158.07, just above the 158.00 pivot and above its 157.95 20-day average and 157.71 50-day average. The 20-day change is positive at 0.65%, although the pair has moved slightly lower over one and five days. This points to a firm but consolidating structure.

The 14-day RSI is 53.0, close to neutral, while ATR is 0.76 yen. The first support zone is around 157.83, which also matches the 20-day exponential average, followed by 157.52. On the upside, 158.31 and 158.49 are the next pivot references.

The recent 20-day high at 159.00 remains the upper range boundary, while 156.40 is the lower boundary. Price holding above the moving-average cluster would preserve the constructive bias, but repeated rejection near 158.49 could keep the pair range-bound.

Bullish scenarioIf USD/JPY holds above 158.00 and clears 158.31, the next levels to monitor are 158.49 and the 159.00 20-day high.
Bearish scenarioIf USD/JPY falls below 157.83, the decline could extend toward 157.52 and challenge the nearby moving-average support.

USD/INR

Bearish94.95

USD/INR remains below its 95.92 20-day average, 95.72 20-day exponential average and 95.56 50-day average despite a rebound from its 94.52 20-day low.

USD/INR closed at 94.95, above the 94.69 pivot after gaining 0.45% on the day. However, the pair is down 1.89% over five days and 1.11% over 20 days, while remaining below the 95.92 20-day average, 95.72 20-day exponential average and 95.56 50-day average.

The 14-day RSI is 40.4, showing weak momentum without an extreme oversold reading. ATR is 0.66 rupee, so short-term moves can still be meaningful relative to the current price. The 94.69 pivot and 94.52 20-day low are the main lower references, while 95.21 is the first pivot resistance.

A recovery above 95.21 could bring the 95.56 50-day average into focus. Until the moving-average area is reclaimed, the recent decline remains the dominant structure, although the one-day rebound shows that downside momentum is not continuous.

Bullish scenarioIf USD/INR holds above 94.69 and clears 95.21, the pair could test 95.56 and then the 95.72 20-day exponential average.
Bearish scenarioIf USD/INR falls below 94.69, the 94.52 20-day low becomes the next level to monitor.

The most relevant scheduled event for sterling is the Average Earnings Index 3m/y on Tuesday 20 October at 10:00 UAE. The forecast is 3.8%, compared with 3.9% previously. A meaningful difference between the release and expectations can affect sterling volatility and may influence GBP/USD around the announcement.

For the US dollar, the NAHB Housing Market Index is scheduled for Monday at 18:00 UAE. On Tuesday, ADP Weekly Employment Change is due at 16:15 UAE, followed at 16:30 UAE by Building Permits and Housing Starts, with Pending Home Sales at 18:00 UAE. All are marked low impact, so reactions may be limited, but clustered releases can still create short-term movement in dollar pairs.

No scheduled events are supplied for the Japanese yen or Indian rupee in the next 48 hours. Traders should still account for wider movement around the listed US and UK releases because those currencies are part of the relevant pairs.

Algo insight: how a rules-based system treats today

A rules-based algorithm would first classify the instruments by their position relative to the 20-day and 50-day averages. EUR/USD and USD/INR remain below both averages, GBP/USD is mixed between them, and USD/JPY is slightly above both. This supports conditional, range-aware rules rather than assuming that a one-day move has changed the wider trend.

ATR should guide risk controls and position sizing: current readings are 0.0076 for EUR/USD, 0.0078 for GBP/USD, 0.76 for USD/JPY and 0.66 for USD/INR. Larger ATR values imply that a fixed-distance stop may be reached more easily, so an algorithm can reduce position size or use a volatility-adjusted stop distance while keeping overall risk controlled.

A rules-based approach would generally avoid opening new exposure immediately around the UK earnings release and the clustered US releases, then reassess after spreads and price movement stabilise. Session filters can also separate the more liquid European and US periods from quieter conditions, while daily pivot levels provide objective confirmation points rather than standalone trade signals.
